Momentum 1080™

Motion without Limits

Gimbal Innovations introduces a revolutionary motion platform that delivers unlimited rotational movement, fighter-jet-level performance, and breakthrough affordability. Powered by patent-pending technology, Momentum 1080™ creates an unmatched immersive experience by seamlessly integrating physical motion with virtual reality software.

This is visceral reality—motion without constraints.

Who We Are

Gimbal Innovations is a Cincinnati-based technology startup focused on building high-performance motion platforms that dramatically expand what’s possible with today’s virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems.

Our flagship product, Momentum 1080™, is a next-generation flight and vehicle simulation platform that combines immersive VR with fully untethered physical motion. Designed for superior performance, efficiency, and accessibility, Momentum 1080 delivers professional-grade realism in a compact, affordable form factor.

Momentum 1080 provides true three-axis, 360-degree rotational freedom—roll, pitch, and yaw—without mechanical limits. No other commercially available simulator offers this level of motion capability at a comparable price-to-performance ratio.

Our proprietary control system synchronizes simulator motion with the user’s visual field in real time, creating a deeply realistic, intuitive experience we call Visceral Reality™.

The Origin of Momentum 1080

Momentum 1080 is the brainchild of lifelong aviation enthusiast and aerospace engineer Dan O’Reilly.

Dan holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and has spent more than 25 years working in aviation, aerospace engineering, and advanced manufacturing for companies including GE Aerospace and Shell. His career spans jet engine design, advanced materials, and large-scale engineering programs.

Breaking Barriers

After years of working with conventional simulators, Dan grew frustrated by their limitations: high cost, constrained motion, excessive power requirements, and massive footprints. In 2020, he founded Gimbal Innovations with a singular goal—to reimagine motion simulation from the ground up.

Ambitious Design Criteria

From the outset, Momentum 1080 was engineered to meet four uncompromising requirements:

  1. Deliver fighter-jet-level performance
  2. Fit within an average home or commercial venue
  3. Operate using standard household electrical power
  4. Be sold at a price point accessible to a meaningful market

The result is a fundamentally new class of motion platform.

Intellectual Property

Patent Status

The Momentum 1080 patent has been officially approved.

  • The USPTO has approved US Patent App. Ser. No. 19/256,283 | 0792749
  • Payment of issue fee is in process, after which the formal patent number will be assigned
  • Gimbal Innovations, Inc. owns the patent

Near-term next steps

  • Seize a strategic time window to expand the “moat” around the M1080 technology
  • Preparing a continuation patent application (“CON”) to do exactly that
  • A CON is a powerful tool to prevent competitors from finding potential loopholes or design-arounds to the patent

Patent Family Roadmap

Expand the patent “thicket” over time. A comprehensive Patent Family Roadmap for the Momentum 1080 has been developed, with five patent families:

  1. Patent Family 1: Untethered Rotational System
  2. Patent Family 2: Center of Gravity Management System
  3. Patent Family 3: Control Moment Gyro Design
